Four of Air Force's starting five (Smith, Huntimer, McNabb, Cortez) rank top nine in steals against the Mountain West with no other program in the league sporting more than one.
In Mountain West games, McNabb's 1.25 blocks per game ranks third among conference competitors.
A Historic Start...
Air Force opened Mountain West play in 2024-25 at 10-2, marking its first ever 10-win non-conference in Air Force's Division I history and the first such occurrence since the 1991-92 season. Starting 9-1 on the year with just an overtime loss at Army (Nov. 15), Air Force got off to its best ten-game start since Maj. Danny Fowler's 1982-83 Falcons went 12-1. The Falcons opened 6-0 in Clune Arena for the first time since 1985-86, when Air Force started at home with seven-straight wins.
And Historic Finish?
At 14-10, Air Force is battling toward its best finish in the program's Division I history (19-14); Head coach Stacy McIntyre is three wins short of tying the most by a head coach in their first season at Air Force (17), a title currently shared by then-Capt. Chuck Holt (1979-80) and then-Capt. Danny Fowler (1981-82).
A Cool Grand:
Combining for 53 points at San Jose State (Jan. 11), Smith and Perry both eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for their respective careers, becoming the 19th and 20th players to do so in Air Force history, and the fourth-such duo to collectively claim the honor in the same season.
Service Before Self:
Jo Huntimer leads Air Force in total assists (102), while currently sporting the second-best assist average in the Mountain West play (4.5). 373 career assists currently ranks second in Air Force DI history and sixth all-time (451, Briana Autrey-Thompson, 2018-22) - a spot in the record books secured in the Falcons' win over Milwaukee on Nov. 28 in Puerto Rico.
Rounding into Form:
Through the Falcons' last six games, sophomore guard Keelie O'Hollaren is averaging .470 (24-51) shooting from the field and .472 (17-36) and from three-point range. clearing her respective season averages of .346 and .297.
Winning Trends:
Air Force has ...
- Held 13 of 14 opponents to less than 70 points (16 consecutive win streak snapped in win at CSU on Feb. 1) in all wins this season;
- Forced more turnovers than 13 of 14 opponents (17 consecutive win streak snapped at CSU on Feb. 1) in all wins this season ;
- Scored more points off of turnovers than opponents in all 14 wins this season;
- Led in the game with five minutes to go in all 14 wins this season (61 consecutive wins in regulation).
Air Force is Undefeated When...
- Matching or surpassing opponents in rebounds (6-0, eight straight wins);
- Leading home opponents at halftime (7-0);
- Scoring 70 or more in Clune (7-0);
Out-shooting home opponents from the field (5-0) and from three-point range (6-0).
Rebounding is Key:
Air Force is 6-0 this season in games in which they match or beat opponents in rebounding and have won eight straight such games dating back to the Falcons' win at Utah State last season (Feb. 10, 2024).
Completing the Mission:
Since Dec. 21, 2021, Air Force has only lost two games after holding a lead with five minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Both losses took place in overtime, falling that day in double overtime at UTEP, and dropping a 57-51 contest to Army at West Point on Nov. 15 of this season.
Not including overtime games, Air Force has won 61 consecutive contests ending in regulation after holding a lead at the five-minute mark in the fourth quarter.
An Even Dozen:
Air Force has at least 12 steals in 14 of 24 games in 2024-25. The Falcons' streak of six-straight contests with 12 or more takeaways to open 2024-25 was the longest active streak in Division I at the time.
Last Time Out:
LARAMIE, Wyo. – After a back-and-forth contest in the early stages of the Air Force Women's basketball team's Wednesday contest at Wyoming, the Cowgirls managed to pull away and keep the Falcons at length for the duration of the game, resulting in the Falcons falling 64-56.
Junior Madison Smith led Air Force scoring with 15 points on the evening; Junior Milahnie Perry followed up with 14; Sophomores Jayda McNabbb and Keelie O'Hollaren put up 12 and 11, respectively, marking the Falcons' fourth-straight game with three or more double-digit scorers.
Air Force and Wyoming exchanged leads four times in the opening quarter on the way to a 19-all tie at the end of the first period. Perry got to the Wyoming basket early on, putting up the Falcons' first six points, but Wyoming center Allyson Fertig (30 PTS) matched Perry's output to keep the score within a possession. The Falcons got on a 6-0 run to retake the lead, but Fertig's first made three of the season and just the third of her career put Wyoming back up 14-12. Down 19-17 to close the quarter, sophomore Emily Adams bobbled in a layup at the buzzer to even the score.
Smith opened the second quarter with a quick five points off a trey and subsequent converted turnover to push a 25-20 lead and a Perry layup had the Falcons up by as much as six points, but Fertig was able to lift Wyoming back to a tie with six-straight points at the Air Force rim. A three on the right wing got the Cowgirls back in front, 29-26, with 3:52 left in the half.
Fertig's streak proved the start of a 17-0 run that left Air Force down by as much as 11 points in the quarter. The Falcons were scoreless for nearly seven minutes of the period, but Huntimer found McNabb on the baseline in the waning seconds of the half to break the cold streak, leaving the tally at 37-28 at the break.
Out of the break, Air Force was able to adjust on both ends of the floor, limiting to just three baskets for the entire third quarter and ultimately outshoot Wyoming, but the Falcons failed to gain any ground, as the Cowgirls went 4-5 from the free throw line to maintain a nine-point advantage at the end of the third quarter. A five-point spurt by Fertig pushed Wyoming out to a 47-37 lead at the 5:21 mark. Looking for answers, Jo Huntimer, in traffic under the Cowgirl basket, hitched the ball out to Emily Adams, whose baseline jumper cut the deficit back within single digits and keeping the game within reach.
Down 11 in the early seconds of the fourth quarter after Fertig made good on a second-chance look from a missed three from teammate Emily Mellema, the Falcons looked to have momentum on their side, as O'Hollaren, Smith and Perry combined for a 6-2 scoring advantage to get within seven points of the Cowgirls. An untimely 9-2 response by Wyoming left Air Force back, 63-51, with just under two minutes to go.
McNabb was the centerpiece of the Falcons' efforts to come back in the waning seconds of the game, as she managed to make good on a fast break layup and converted turnover on UW's Payton Muma to drag Air Force back within eight points with 25 seconds to go.
Smith got one final look at the Wyoming basket from the left corner after Wyoming was turned over on a five-second penalty at midcourt, but her attempt was not good, leaving Air Force with the 64-56 result as time expired.
