LINCOLN, Neb. -- Air Force freshman Brayden Richards debuted at No. 7 on the program's all-time heptathlon standings this afternoon (Feb. 8), as he wrapped up his first collegiate combined meet with a 5249-point total. Richards, who finished sixth at the Husker Invitational, also reset the Academy's Freshman Class Record.
Richards, the top-scoring underclassmen in the meet, finished sixth overall and fifth among collegiate athletes. The freshman, who entered the day in 12th, moved up one spot following an 879-point time of 8.42 in the 60-meter hurdles. He jumped up to seventh after clearing 4.75 meters (15'7") for 834 points in the pole vault and finished the day in sixth after clocking a 726-point time of 2:52.79 in his 1000-meter debut.
As the eighth Falcon to surpass the 5200-point mark, Richards debuted at No. 7 in the Academy Record Book. His mark also added 81 points to the Air Force Freshman Class Record that Braeden Holcombe set in 2022.
Fellow freshman – and Nebraska native – Morgan Glaser also competed at the Bob Devaney Sports Center this afternoon, finishing sixth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.75 meters (5'8¾").
The Falcons return to full team competition next weekend, as they split for the Husky Classic (Seattle, Wash.), the Jarvis Scott Open (Lubbock, Texas) and the Mountain Lion Open (Colorado Springs) over the Feb. 14-15 weekend.
