2/14/2025 11:52:00 PM | Track and Field
LUBBOCK, Texas -- Junior Texas Tanner took down the Air Force Record in the weight throw for the third time this season on Friday (Feb. 14) afternoon, as members of the track and field team opened competition at the Jarvis Scott Invitational in Lubbock, Texas.
Tanner saved his best for last in the weight throw, as he unleashed the record-breaking throw of 23.46 meters (76'11¾") on his final attempt. With that distance, a personal improvement of nearly four feet, Tanner easily distanced himself from the field – winning the meet by four feet. In addition to improving his own Air Force Record for the third time in the last five meets, Tanner reset his own Service Academy Record, moved into the NCAA Top 10 for 2025, and accounted for the No. 2 throw in Mountain West history.
The junior was one of two top-five finishers for the Falcons in the weight throw, as senior Cooper Stroka recorded his second 20+ meter throw (20.10, 65'11½") to finish fifth.
Backed by the third-fastest 800-meter time in program history from sophomore Liliane Aittama, the women made four updates to the Air Force Record Book on Friday. Aittama clocked a runner-up time of 2:07.99 to improve her own No. 3 mark on the program's all-time standings and set a new Sophomore Class Record – edging 0.01 seconds off the previous mark Ally Romanko had held since 2008.
Elsewhere, freshman Morgan Glaser lowered her time in the 60-meter hurdles to 9.07 to move up to No. 13 on the all-time standings and sophomore Karli Neff recorded a career-best pole vault clearance of 3.69 meters (12'1½") to claim first-place honors in the meet and debut at No. 23 on the all-time standings.
The Falcons completed a sweep of the collegiate pole vault titles on Friday, as freshman James Vogel Jr. was the top college athlete in the men's event. With a career-best clearance of 4.96 meters (16'3¼"), Vogel finished second overall and led Air Force to a pair of top-four finishes (freshman Brayden Richards, fourth at 4.81m/15'9¼").
The Falcons close out the Jarvis Scott Invitational tomorrow (Feb. 15), while the rest of the team will be competing at the Husky Classic in Seattle and the Mountain Lion Open in Colorado Springs.
