Falcons Head to West Point to Face Army, Simpson

Air Force Gymnastics returns to action this Friday (March 14), when the 13th-ranked men travels to New York to close out the regular season with a triangular meet against No. 12 Army West Point and No. 15 Simpson at 6:00 p.m. (ET).
MEET INFORMATION
The triangular meet between Air Force, Army West Point, and Simpson will take place at 6:00 p.m. (ET) on Friday, March 14, in the Black Knights' gym in West Point. Live video and scoring will be provided on the Virtius scoring platform (a direct link is available on the Falcons' schedule page).
SCOUTING THE FIELD
In the first week using a four-score average to determine the national standings, Army West Point is ranked 12th with an average of 308.425, while Simpson is listed 15th with a 292.100 mark. Army's Maddox Pabellon holds the highest individual placement between the Falcons' two opponents, as he is ranked sixth on the pommel horse with a 14.050 average. Simpson's Braxton Jones also holds a top-10 national ranking, as he is listed 10th on the vault with a 14.083.
AIR FORCE IN THE RANKINGS
The Falcons boast a pair of top 10 athletes on the pommel horse in the latest NCAA rankings, as Patrick Hoopes is ranked second (14.483) and Jack Matlock is listed 10th (13.817). Erich Upton is ranked among the NCAA Top 10 in two events, holding a 76.367 score in the all-around (third) and a 14.117 average on the vault (seventh). As a team, Air Force is ranked fifth on the pommel horse with a four-score average of 53.375 and 13th in the overall standings with an early 308.017 average.

HOOPES NAMED FINALIST FOR NISSEN-EMERY AWARD
Patrick Hoopes was named a finalist for the prestigious Nissen-Emery Award – the highest honor in collegiate gymnastics – on March 11, becoming the eighth Air Force gymnast to earn that distinction. The Nissen-Emery Award is given to the year's most outstanding senior gymnast, who has established an excellent record of achievement during his collegiate career, set an example of good sportsmanship, and maintained a high standard of scholarship throughout his collegiate career.

The Falcons return to action on March 28-29, when they travel to Annapolis, Md., for the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Nationals.
