SAN MARCOS, Texas – Backed by a strong opening day in the heptathlon from sophomore Kayla Beach and freshman Sarah Reynolds, several members of the Air Force track and field team kicked off the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos, Texas, on Thursday, March 27.
Beach and Reynolds currently sit in fifth (2788 points) and sixth (2761 points), respectively, after the first day of action in the heptathlon. The sophomore opened the day with an 826-point time of 15.12 in the 100-meter hurdles, before picking up her best event finish of the day (fifth) in the high jump (1.58 meters, 5'2¼" – 712 points). Reynolds bookended the opening day of her first collegiate heptathlon with a pair of 800+ performances – including a runner-up, 810-point time of 25.85 in the 200-meter dash to debut at No. 21 on the program's all-time standings. Banks was one of three first-year Falcons to earn top-10 finishes on Friday, as Ella Pears finished eighth in the unseeded section of the 400-meter dash (66.03) and Brayden Richards added a 10th-place time of 15.44 in the 110-meter hurdles. Junior Massimo Grisotto also accounted for a top-10 finish, as he finished within the top half of the "A" discus throw (10th) behind a distance of 48.69 meters (159'9").
