Texas Tanner Shatters Air Force Discus Record in Oklahoma Finale
4/13/2025 5:04:00 PM | Track and Field
RAMONA, Okla. – Saving the best for last, junior Texas Tanner closed out four-straight days of competition with a historic, record-setting performance in the discus at the Oklahoma Throws Series World Invitational this morning (April 13) in Ramona. With a launch of 63.20 meters (207'5"), Tanner easily obliterated his own Air Force – and Service Academy – Record, while accounting for the fifth-best distance in Mountain West history.
Tanner initially broke his previous program standard on his opening attempt, when he posted a distance of 60.79 meters (199'5") to become the first member of a service academy squad to surpass the 60-meter mark in competition. He improved that distance two attempts later, when he sent the disc sailing a record 63.20 meters into the Oklahoma landscape and added another 'first' to his resume by surpassing 200 feet.
With that distance, Tanner was the top collegiate finisher in his section (third overall), and accounted for the best mark by a Mountain West thrower since 2014 to debut at No. 5 on the MW all-time list.
