AZUSA, Calif. – Air Force senior Jason Renze kicked off his steeplechase season by improving his own No. 5 standing in the Academy Record Book last night (April 16), as a small contingent of the distance squad opened action at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa.
Renae, in his first steeplechase of the year and his first meet of the outdoor season, clocked a time of 8:41.69 to improve his overall time – and the No. 5 mark in Air Force history – by nearly five seconds. With that time, Renze finished fourth out of 98 runners in the overall field and was one of six to better the previous stadium record.
Two Falcons also debuted on the program's Top 25 during the various heats of the 10,000-meter run. Junior Tanner Lindahl, running in his first collegiate 10K, posted a time of 29:34.45 to enter the all-time standings at No. 17 and finish fourth out of 54 runners in the open section, while classmate Brenton Maddox debuted at No. 21 after clocking in at 29:43.01 during one of the invitational sections.
Air Force begins its California road trip in earnest on Thursday (April 17), as it continues competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa and takes part at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate in Long Beach.
