
Air Force Falls to Nevada in Rubber Match

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo., - Despite holding the Wolf Pack off for five innings, the Falcons (17-27, 9-12) dropped the series finale 7-2 to Nevada (25-18, 12-9) on a windy Sunday afternoon at Erdle Field. Air Force tallied nine hits while the pitching staff struck out six.
At the plate, Zach Peters went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and one RBI. Sophomore Luke Elmore recorded his fourth home run of the season for one RBI.
Ethan Dillinger (0-1) clinched the starting spot on the mound. The sophomore logged a new career high five full innings and struck out a trio of batters while giving up two runs. In relief, Charlie Russell threw one strikeout and allowed three runs to score across 1.1 innings. Sam Hentges entered for 1.2 innings on the hill, striking out one batter and allowing one run. To close, Easton Miller recorded one strikeout and one run given up in one full inning.
The Falcon defense notched a double play and a ground out in the top of the third.
Dillinger went three up, three down in the top of the fourth and fifth frames after utilizing his defense for a trio of fly outs and a pair of ground outs to the shortstop Ben Niednagel.
Both teams held scoreless through the fifth inning until Nevada plated a trio of runs to take a 3-0 lead in the top of six.
In the top of the stretch, the Pack extended their advantage to 6-0 off five hits.
To break the shutout 6-1, Elmore sent a lead-off shot over the left field fence for the Falcons first run of the day.
Nevada locked in their seventh run on an RBI double in the top of the ninth frame, 7-1.
On Air Force's last chance, they trimmed the deficit to a final 7-2 score. With two outs, Walker Zapp placed a double in left center field. Peters sent him across the plate on a double out to deep right.
The Falcons will head back to Greeley, Colo., to face Northern Colorado for the last time this season on Tuesday April 29 at 3 p.m. MT.
