RENO, Nev. – After a grind-it-out win in Albuquerque on Friday afternoon, Air Force Women's Tennis, on a quick turnaround, took on the No. 61 Nevada Wolf Pack in Reno on Sunday, falling 4-1 at the McArthur Tennis Center.
The Falcons took doubles, then dropped singles contests on lines three (Lou-Anne Guerbert vs. Nadia Kojonroj, 6-0, 6-2), six (Petra Janigova vs. Joselyn Limbago, 6-4, 6-2), one (Charrier Amahee vs. Alexis Odom, 6-1, 7-5) and two (Marlene Foerster vs. Arianna Van Houweling, 6-4, 6-3) in order.
Opening in doubles play, Air Force captured its twelfth win of the season, scoring the opening point with set wins on courts two and one. Odom and freshman Maya Michalski took an early lead over Marlene Foerster/Wiem Boubaker and held on, taking a 7-5 win to improve to 8-5 as a pair. After a Falcon loss on line three (Silvia-Maria Costache/Janigova vs. Sofia Mavor/Kojonroj, 7-5), the doubles point would be determined on the top flight, as Shivaani Selvan/Van Houweling faced off against 12-2 Kennedy Robinson/Charrier. The Falcon pair came out on top, snapping the Nevada duo's three-match win streak and improving to 4-1 in dual doubles this season.
Mavor, on line five facing Boubaker, swept her opening set and led 5-4 in the second, while sophomore Giovanna Sanchirico was tie three-all in her second set against 9-1 Robinson and looking to force a third, when Nevada clinched and their respective matches were abandoned.
"Today, this team showed incredible grit and determination," said head coach Taylor Hollander. "We had a clear path to success on most of the courts, but a few key moments didn't go our way. I'm extremely proud of the fight and professionalism displayed. We will keep working hard, and next time, we'll trust ourselves to execute when those opportunities present themselves."
