U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo., - Falcons women's soccer (1-4-2) fell to local opponent UCCS (3-1-1), 2-0, on Tuesday September 16 at Cadet Soccer Stadium. Despite outshooting the Mountain Lions 15-12 with strong attacking opportunities, Air Force could not manage a goal. The Falcons collected one shot on goal apiece from Annika Jost, Peyton Ferrell, Kendall Rippley, and Zahra Friess, while goalkeeper Trishelle Lopez logged a pair of saves.
Air Force came out with high intensity, generating early pressure in the opening half with a trio of attempts from AJ Heap, Chase Borntreger, and Annika Jost. Slick conditions made it tough to stay clean in the final third, as several looks missed the frame. UCCS tested the Falcons twice, but Lopez held the Mountain Lions to leave the first half scoreless.
After the break, the Falcons maintained possession and nearly broke through in the 55' when Borntreger fired from distance, her strike missing just over the woodwork. The Mountain Lions struck first at the 73' mark, as Brooke Pavlich lifted a shot above Lopez to take the 1-0 lead. Air Force earned one opportunity from the corner before Elise Broberg doubled their advantage in the 82nd minute. The Falcons fought to the final whistle, rattling off five consecutive shots in the closing minutes, but couldn't find the back of the net, falling 2-0 in a hard-fought match.
Air Force will face the Bears of Northern Colorado at Cadet Soccer Stadium on Friday September 19, at 6 p.m. MT.
