BASE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
The U.S. Air Force Academy has adjusted the process to access the installation, which will affect the Rocky Mountain Open. While the installation remains open for events, if you do not have a DoD ID card, you will need to obtain a pass to enter the base. Spectators must request a base pass (LINK). Once you register, you will receive a message on your phone about approval. Each adult requesting a base pass must present a valid driver's license to scan at the gate. Spectators under the age of 18, with an approved adult, are allowed to access the base for athletic events.
LET'S MEET THE FIELD
The majority of this year's RMO teams will be making their season debut on Saturday, although Stanford opened the 2026 campaign last Friday with a 320.100-309.700 victory over California – a winning total that currently lead the NCAA.
ROUND AND ROUND WE GO
Air Force will begin on the floor exercise and rotate through Olympic order, with Academy graduate and two-time NCAA champion 2Lt Patrick Hoopes joining the team on the pommel horse. Oklahoma and gymnasts from 5280 will start on the pommel horse, while gymnasts from Rocky Mountain Mavericks and Texas Dreams will open on the still rings, Stanford will begin on the vault, Nebraska will start on the parallel bars, and gymnasts from Arizona State and California will open the meet on the high bar.
HISTORY 101
The Rocky Mountain Open, which has been hosted by the Air Force Academy since 1980, dates back more than 70 years – as teams throughout Colorado and Nebraska shared hosting duties during the initial years. Oklahoma has won all but three of the RMO team titles since 2000, with Nebraska (2018) and Stanford (2023, 2025) claiming the remaining titles.
DID YOU KNOW?
Air Force assistant coaches Sergey Resnick and Mike Reid combined for five-straight Rocky Mountain Open titles on the pommel horse during their collegiate days at Oklahoma. Resnick won the event titles in 2013, 2014 and 2016, while Reid claimed the honor in 2012 and 2015. Overall, Air Force assistants have totaled six RMO championships on the pommel horse, as first-year coach 2Lt Patrick Hoopes claimed the 2025 title to open his historic senior season.
REPORTING FOR DUTY
Air Force welcomed eight talented freshmen to its roster for the 2026 season with the addition of Carson Crooks, Devin Gopaul, John Hults, Alex Kob, Isaac Koo, Will Kudlac, John Calvin North IV, and Reese Staley.
ON THE SIDELINE
Josh Loeser is back for his seventh season as head coach of the Air Force gymnastics team and his 12th overall year on the Falcons' coaching staff. Loeser, the USAG (2024) and MPSF (2023) Head Coach of the Year, will be joined in the gym by former Oklahoma teammates Mike Reid and Sergey Resnick, as well as 2025 Air Force graduate 2Lt Patrick Hoopes.
HOME SWEET HOME
Air Force will host just three competitions within the familiar confines for Cadet West Gym this season. After hosting the Rocky Mountain Open on Jan. 17, the Falcons will honor their seniors during a dual meet with the Mavericks on Feb. 28 and kick off the postseason hosting the USAG Collegiate Nationals on March 20-21.
OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN
Seniors Sam Brown and Tai Gopaul will serve as captains for the 2026 Falcons' squad.
WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE FALCONS
Air Force returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 7, when it travels to Norman for a triangular meet with Oklahoma and Ohio State.
