LARAMIE, Wyo. – Air Force Women's Basketball won the turnover game and compiled a solid defensive effort on Saturday afternoon at Wyoming, but the Falcons were unable to overcome their own shooting struggles and an early Cowgirl run which ended in a 67-44 loss in Arena-Auditorium.
Junior Jayda McNabb scored a team-high 16 points (6-12 FG, 4-8 FT, 11 REB, 3 STL). Senior Emily Adams followed up with 10 points (tied season high) and a game high four steals.
A 5-7 start from three-point range for Wyoming and 3-5 first-quarter effort for Cowgirl Jane Rumpf left Air Force trailing 23-9 after the first 10 minutes. Air Force was able to lock in defensively in the second and began to chip away at Wyoming's lead, holding the Cowgirls to 1-5 shooting to the second-quarter media timeout and 3-12 as a whole in the second quarter. A driving score for freshman Maddy Jensen pulled the Falcons back within 11 points after the timeout. From there, Air Force and the Cowgirls traded blows down the final minutes of the opening half to the tune of a 31-18 Wyoming halftime lead.
Air Force and Wyoming fell into a defensive stalemate to open the second quarter, as both teams sunk just a single basket in the opening five minutes of the second half. Back-to-back scores for Perry and Adams jump-started Air Force scoring and pulled the Falcons back within a dozen, but the Cowgirls also got things going on their end and Wyoming broke away on the back half of the third quarter. A 10-0 Wyoming run lifted the Cowgirls to a 52-31 lead at the third quarter buzzer.
The Falcons again managed to bolt down Wyoming defensively early on in the fourth quarter and held their opponent to 4-9 shooting the remainder of the game. With an opportunity in hand, the Falcons struggled to generate momentum on the other end, falling 67-44 as time expired.
The Falcons (8-10, 2-6 MW) led Wyoming in offensive rebounding (12), steals (11), points off of turnovers (10), points in the paint (28), second-chance points (eight) and fast-break points (two).
