
Texas Tanner Rewrites Air Force’s Shot Put Record

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Air Force senior Texas Tanner reset his own program record in the shot put this afternoon (Jan. 31), as the track and field team wrapped up their first appearance at the DeLoss Dodds Invitational in Manhattan, Kansas. Backed by Tanner's record-setting throw, the Falcons made three improvements to the Academy's all-time standings on their final day at the Cliff Rovelto Indoor Track.

With a career-best throw of 19.83 meters (65'0¾), Tanner improved his Air Force distance in the shot put for the second time this season. The senior, who also improved his own service academy standard, easily claimed his third shot put title in four meets this year, as he used a Facility Record distance on his fifth attempt to win the competition by nearly two meters.

On the women's side, Allison Fernstrom debuted on the program's Top 10 in the 400-meter dash and ran on the 4x400-meter relay that posted an Air Force Top 12 mark. Fernstrom opened her afternoon with an eighth-place time of 56.65 in the individual 400-meter event – a finish that knocked 0.70 seconds off her previous best and vaulted her up to No. 9 on the program's all-time standings. She then teamed up with freshman Eleanor Borchard and the sophomore duo of Ella Pears and Sarah Reynolds to account for the 11th-fastest indoor 4X4 in program history, as the quartet finished sixth behinda time of 3:50.83.
Elsewhere, sophomore Asher Jenkins finished fifth in the finals of the 60-meter dash (6.86), while freshman Zachary DeWalt earned the same placement in the 400-meter dash (48.74). Junior Kayla Beach, one day removed from breaking the program standard in the pentathlon, earned a sixth-place finish in the long jump (5.50m, 18'0½), while senior Ashton Higgerson clocked a career-best, eighth-place time of 4:18.13 in the mile.
The Falcons return to Boulder next weekend for the Colorado Classic on Feb. 6-7.
