Air Force Unable To Overtake Colorado State In 91-74 Game

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's basketball (3-21, 0-13 MW) fell to Colorado State (14-10, 5-8 MW), 91-74, in Mountain West action Tuesday night at Clune Arena. Freshmen Lucas Hobin and Kam Sanders scored game-high's of 17 points each to lead the Falcons.
Air Force had one of its best shooting nights of the season. The Falcons shot 55.3 percent from the field, its best percentage in a MW game. Air Force also shot a season-best 57 percent from three, making 12 three's.
Unfortunately, Colorado State also shot well on the night, shooting 55 percent from the field and making 14 three's. The big difference was the free throw line, where CSU got to the line 36 times, and holding a 29-10 advantage in free throws made.
Despite shooting 69 percent from the field and 86 percent from three (6-of-7) in the opening half, the Falcons found itself trailing 47-39 at the half. Colorado State hit nine three's and went 14-for-14 from the free throw line in the opening half to take the lead.
The Falcons kept at it in the second half, knocking down six more three's. But CSU shot 60 percent in the second half and Air Force was never able to get closer.
Sanders was an efficient 5-for-7 from the field for the Falcons. He was a perfect 3-for-3 from three and 4-for-4 from the line. Sanders also led the team with six assists.
Hobin provided the Falcons with five three's on the night. He now has 53 on the season, becoming just the second freshman in program history to surpass the 50 three's mark.
Air Force also got 10 points from freshman Ethan Greenberg, who reached double digits scoring for the fourth game. Greenberg knocked down a pair of three's.
Sophomore Eli Robinson led the Falcons with eight rebounds, adding eight points. Junior Caleb Walker returned from a six game absence due to injury, scoring nine points off the bench and grabbing seven rebounds. Freshman Riley Dering also provided a spark off the bench, adding four points, four rebounds and two blocked shots.
Air Force had 19 assists on the night, the most in a MW game this season.
Brandon Rechsteiner led five Rams in double-figures scoring with 14 points. Five different CSU players had multiple three's in the game.
Air Force returns to action Saturday, Feb. 14 at Fresno State. Tip time is 2 pm PT from Save Mart Center. The game will be streamed on the MW Network.
