A Brief History
Air Force has won 12 times in 34 meetings since 1967. Since joining all Div. I lacrosse in 1994, the Falcons are 5-21 and have lost the last three meetings (2023, 24, 25). AF's last win against tOSU was in the ECAC Tournament where the Falcons downed the Buckeyes, 14-7, in Columbus. In that same season, the Falcons won the ECAC Tournament as well as their first-ever NCAA Tournament game against Richmond.
A Look at the Buckeyes
Head coach Nick Myers is in his 18th season leading the Scarlet and Gray. In his Ohio State career, he has led the team to a 148-110 record. He is assisted by associate head coach Travis Crane and assistant coaches James Purpura and Justin Tuma.
The Buckeyes pace the Big Ten Conference in caused turnovers per game (12.67), face-off win percentage (.733), ground balls per game (44.33), man-up offense (.625) and scoring defense (5.33). Ohio State is averaging 15.67 goals per game in the third week of the season with a 10.33 scoring margin.
The Tewaaraton Foundation announced the watch list for the 2026 Tewaaraton Award Tuesday with Caleb Fyock, Cullen Brown and Bobby Van Buren named to the list for the Buckeyes.
Last Time They Played
A late rally came up short as Air Force dropped a 17-11 non-conference game against Ohio State, February 15, 2025, at Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium. Caelan Driggs tied his career best with five goals. He notched his hat trick in the first half.
D-UP!
After two weeks of play, Air Force leads the NCAA in caused turnovers per game (15.50). Freshman defender Jack Gounaris is sixth in the NCAA with 3.50 CTOs per game, and senior LSM Cole Cunningham is eighth in Division I CTOs with 3.00 per game. The Falcons also have the 10th best opponent clearing percentage in the NCAA (.750).
Tough Day at the Office
Air Force was held to just a pair of scores in the 10-2 loss to in-state rival, Denver, Saturday (Feb. 7) at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. DU held Air Force to their lowest scoring output since losing to Sienna, 5-2, in 2010. Denver, outscoring opponents 30-3 in the first two games, was held to just one goal in the first quarter.
The first Falcon to score was freshman standout Christian Schweiger via assist from C4C teammate Jack Gounaris 10 seconds into the second quarter. Air Force went quietly for a 34-minute scoring drought while the Pios tacked on seven goals. The Falcons broke the drought at 10:09 of the fourth quarter as Henry Spencer scored his first collegiate goal in an unassisted attack.
Senior team captain and AF goals leader Caelan Driggs took a career high 12 shots but was unable to find nylon, snapping a 20-game goal scoring streak.
A Look Ahead
The Falcons take next weekend off in exchange for a Tuesday afternoon meeting at Sienna on February 24. It has been 14 years since the teams last met. Air Force controls the all-time series, 5-2, but lost the last two meetings in 2011 (7-6) and 2010 (5-2).
