LUBBOCK, Texas – The Air Force track and field team kicked off competition at the Jarvis Scott Invitational in Lubbock on Friday, Feb. 13, with three additions to the program's all-time standings and six top-10 finishes.
Allison Fernstrom continued her impressive junior season by posting a career-best time of 55.79 to vault up to No. 5 in the Air Force Record Book and place 21st in the 93-runner event. Fernstrom was one of two Falcons to impact the Academy's all-time standings in the 400-meter dash, as freshman Zachary DeWalt posted a time of 48.33 to move up to No. 21 in the men's record book and finish within the top 40 (37th) of a race that included more than 115 runners.
A seventh-place finish from sophomore Parker Hintz led Air Force to three top-25 finishes in an 800-meter event that featured more than 80 runners. Hintz used a raw time of 1:51.13 for that finish, while junior Jonah Hochstetler and sophomore Wyatt Cernyar finished 21st (1:53.54) and 23rd (1:53.77), respectively. In addition, once his time was converted for altitude to 1:50.82, Hintz moved up to No. 13 all-time at Air Force.
Senior Texas Tanner was the top collegiate finisher in the weight throw on Friday, recording a distance of 22.87 meters (75'0½") to finish second in the full 28-thrower field. Junior Karli Neff also accounted for a runner-up finish, as she recorded a clearance of 3.69 meters (12'1¼") to take second in the open pole vault and lead the Falcons to two of the top-three finishes, as sophomore Barrett Boyd placed third with a height of 3.54 meters (11'7¼").
