SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Two Air Force gymnasts were honored by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation this morning (Feb. 17), as sophomore Jared Fry was named the MPSF Gymnast of the Wee k and senior Sam Brown was recognized as the MPSF Specialist of the Week. It is the first conference honor for both Falcons.
Fry scored a career-high, Meet Record score of 78.700 to win the all-around at the All-Academy Championships in Fort Worth on Friday, Feb. 13. Adding nearly three points to his previous best total, Fry accounted for the eighth-best all-around score in the NCAA this season. The Falcons' top finisher on the vault with a third-place score of 13.700, he added a runner-up finish on the still rings (12.900) and third-place marks on the parallel bars (13.250) and high bar (13.200). Highlighted by a pair of career-high event marks, Fry tallied season-high scores on five of the six events.
Like Fry, Brown also used a career-high, Meet Record performance to win an event at the All-Academy Championships. The senior co-captain registered a personal-best 14.300 to claim first-place honors on the pommel horse – one of four individual event titles Air Force during the triangular with Army and Navy. Improving his overall score by 0.300, Brown posted the sixth-highest pommel horse score in the NCAA this season and the eighth-highest total in Air Force history.
The Falcons return to action next Saturday (Feb. 28), when they host the Rocky Mountain Mavericks on senior day at Cadet West Gym. Action is slated to begin at 4:00 p.m. (MT) and admission is free.
