Track & Field Heads to Reno for Mountain West Championships

The Air Force track and field team kicks off the championship portion of the indoor season this week, as it travels to Reno, Nev., for the 2026 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships. The three-day meet, held at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center for the first time, begins on Thursday, Feb. 26, and continues through Saturday, Feb. 28.

MEET INFORMATION
The Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held in Reno for the first time. Single day tickets for Friday and Saturday – $15 for adults – can be purchased online through the Championship Central page at TheMW.com [there is no charge for Thursday]. For fans unable to attend the meet, real-time results will be provided via Record Timing and the meet will be broadcast live, in its entirety, on the Mountain West Network [direct links to both are available on the team's schedule page at GoAirForceFalcons.com]. In addition, updates and highlights will be posted to Air Force's official social media sites [@af_tfxc] throughout the week.

PARTICIPATING TEAMS
The Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships will feature 12 women's teams [Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Nevada, New Mexico, San Diego State, San Jose State, UNLV, Utah State and Wyoming], as well as the men's teams from Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, Grand Canyon, New Mexico, San Jose State, Utah State and Wyoming.
CONFERENCE SNAPSHOT
Entering Championship Weekend, Texas Tanner holds the league's top marks in the shot put [65-0.75] and weight throw [79-4], while the Falcons are listed among the Mountain West's top five an additional seven times – including No. 2 marks from Jettason Rose [200 meters, 20.94], Cam Bodine [800 meters, 2:06.87], and Max McFarlane [pole vault, 17-6.25]/
HISTORY 101
Since the formation of the Mountain West, Air Force has captured five men's team titles [2012, 2016, 2018, 2022, 2023], while its athletes have stood atop the indoor podium 92 times and collected 309 all-conference [top three] selections. Former standout Jamiel Trimble is the Academy's most decorated indoor champion, with five conference titles, eight individual all-MW awards, and the Meet Record in the 200-meter dash [20.67]. Three other Falcons – Michael Rhoads [800-meter run: 1:47.82], Taylor Smith [high jump: 7-2.50] and Kyle Pater [pole vault: 18-6.50] – also hold MW Championship Meet Records.
MEN CONTINUE TO HOLD TOP 30 FOR FIFTH-STRAIGHT WEEK
The men are ranked No. 30 in the Feb. 24 edition of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's Rating Index Checkpoint – marking the 11th time since 2000 that Air Force has been listed in the Top 30.
AIR FORCE IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Texas Tanner is ranked among the nation's top five in both the weight throw and shot put. His 24.18-meter distance in the weight throw is No. 2 in the NCAA this season, while his 19.83-meter throw in the shot put is No. 4.
SQUAD GOALS
The Falcons have five event groups with Top 20 rankings in the Feb. 24 installment of the USTFCCCA #EventSquad Rankings – which are determined by the cumulative season-best marks from a team's top-four athletes in the national descending order list – as the men hold top-20 marks in the weight throw [No. 16, 75.31 meters], pole vault [No. 18, 20.00 meters], and shot put [No. 19, 66.51 meters].
WHAT'S ON DECK
The indoor season comes to a close on March 13-14, when the nation's top 16 athletes in each event will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
