BOULDER, Colo. – Sophomore Ryan McFadden shattered the Air Force record in the 60-meter dash this afternoon (Feb. 7), as members of the Falcons' track team made several improvements to the program's all-time standings during the final day of action at the Colorado Classic in Boulder.
McFadden had a historic outing at the Ford Indoor Practice Facility, knocking 0.08 seconds off the previous 60-meter record that was initially set in 2010. The sophomore, who first matched her previous best of 7.69 (No. 2 all-time) to win the 31-sprinter prelim, lowered that to 7.60 in the final to reset the program standard. McFadden returned to the track in the 200-meter dash, where she clocked the 11th-fastest time in program history (25.37) to finish ninth out of 37 runners.
Senior Jettason Rose and sophomore Asher Jenkins impacted the Air Force Top 10 in both the 60-meter and 200-meter events, with Rose capturing meet titles in both events. Rose, who matched his own No. 15 all-time mark (6.81) in the 60-meter prelim, dropped that time to 6.73 to win the final and match the fourth-fastest time in Air Force history. Rose led the Falcons to a 1-2 finish in the final, as Jenkins finished right on his heels (6.74) to equal the fifth-fastest time in program history. The pair later teamed up for a 1-3 finish in the 200-meter dash, as Rose recorded the second-fastest time in Air Force history (20.87) to win the 65-sprinter event and Jenkins added the program's No. 9 all-time mark (21.27) to place third. Freshman Zachary DeWalt helped the Falcons to three of the five-fastest times in the 200-meter dash, as he posted the 11th-fastest time in Air Force history (21.44) to finish fifth.
The Falcons swept the event titles in the 5000-meter run, as senior India Jones won the 22-runner women's event with a time of 16:41.13 and sophomore Alex Pinckney was the first to cross the finish line in the men's race with a 15:12.77 finish. In addition to winning her race, Jones improved her No. 7 placement on the all-time standings with an altitude-adjusted time of 16:11.35.
Freshman Eleanor Borchard added the sixth-fastest 400-meter time in Air Force history on Saturday, as she registered a time of 56.23 to place third in the 28-runner event – a finish that came after posting a 9.11 during the hurdle prelims to move up to No. 19 on the all-time standings. Fellow freshman Jordan Elie-Stuart debuted at No. 14 in the men's 400-meter dash after recording a time of 47.91 during a fifth-place finish in the 41-runner event, while junior Jonah Hochstetler finished sixth out of 47 runners in the 800-meter run after posting a raw time of 1:52.03 – an altitude-adjusted time of 1:51.31 that moved him up to No. 15 in the Air Force Record Book.
The men made two improvements to the record book in the mile, while placing three in the top eight of the full 70-runner field. Sophomore Junior Allen, who finished fourth overall with a time of 4:05.43, became the seventh to run a sub-four – and the second this season – as he altitude-adjusted time of 3:49.45 is the sixth-fastest time in Air Force history. Classmate Patrick Allen finished seventh in the meet (4:09.55) and debuted at No. 16 on the all-time standings (4:03.47a), while freshman Christopher Creedon clocked a raw time of 4:13.15 to finish eighth. The women added a pair of top-10 finishes in the mile, as junior Scarlet Fetterolf clocked a 5:00.82 to finish sixth out of 44 runners – and improve her No. 15 mark on the all-time standings with a converted time of 4:53.49, while sophomore Jasleen Sidhu added a 10th-place time of 5:04.78.
Elsewhere, sophomore Alese Banks improved her No. 25 placement in the 60-meter dash (7.99) during the first round of races. Freshman Auge Martin (8:30.09) and sophomore Cody Kelley (8:32.72) finished fifth and sixth, respective, out of 51 runners in the 3000-meter run, while junior Rachel Fereday added an eighth-place finish in the 800-meter run (2:12.42) and sophomore Ella Pears joined Borchard among the top 10 of the 400-meter dash (57.55, eighth).
The Falcons split for action next week (Feb. 13-14), when the distance runners head to the Husky Classic in Seattle and the rest of the squad travels to Lubbock, Texas, for the Jarvis Scott Invitational.
