Track and Field Trio Honored by Mountain West

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – For the second time in as many weeks, the Air Force track and field team accounted for half of the Mountain West's weekly performance awards, as sophomore Morgan Glaser, senior Texas Tanner, and freshman Max McFarlane claimed Athlete of the Week honors from the conference this afternoon (March 31).
A repeat honor for Glaser and the third award of the season for Tanner gave Air Force a sweep of the league's Field Athlete of the Week awards, while McFarlane was honored as the MW Men's Freshman of the Week for the second time this year.
Glaser captured her second-straight weekly honor – and fourth overall – after posting a NCAA-leading high jump clearance of 1.87 meters (6'1½") at the UCLA-hosted Jim Bush Legends Meet. That height, which equaled the Air Force Record and Service Academy Record, tied for the best of the day at the 17-jumper competition, Glaser, the second Falcon to surpass six feet in the high jump, is now tied for No. 2 in MW history
Tanner had a stellar start to his outdoor season last weekend, using NCAA Top 5 marks to easily win both of his throwing events. The senior opened the Legends Meet with a 72.26-meter (237'1") distance that won the 32-man hammer throw event by more than 10 meters, before bettering the 31-thrower discus field by nearly six meters with a throw of 62.07-meter (203'7"). The Mountain West in both events, Tanner is ranked among the national leaders in the discus (No. 3) and hammer (No. 5).
With this week's honor, Tanner tied Sam Gilamn for the most MW Athlete of the Week awards in program history at nine.
McFarlane improved to 2-0 in the pole vault this season, winning the Legends Meet with a career-best clearance of 5.25 meters (17'2¾"). Bettering the field by nearly one foot, McFarlane became the 19th Air Force vaulter to clear 17 feet during the outdoor season and moved into a tie for 12th on the program's all-time standings. The current Mountain West leader, he is the No. 2-ranked freshman in the NCAA and stands at No. 21 overall in the national rankings.
Air Force is back in action this weekend (April 3-4), when the team splits for meets in Colorado and California. The majority of the team will head to Boulder for the Jerry Quiller Classic, while members of the distance squad will compete at the Stanford Invitational and Mike Fanelli Track Classic.
