Last Time Out:
On Apr. 4, Air Force Women's Tennis gave its senior class a proper sendoff, earning a 4-0 Senior Day shutout victory over Colorado State at Cadet East Gym.
The 4-0 Air Force finish marks its first shutout victory over CSU in the Taylor Hollander era of Academy women's tennis and the Falcons' first since the 2019 season. At 6-2 in Mountain West play, the Falcons have won five of their last six matches and are firmly seated in fourth place and one win short of tying the top spot.
Air Force (9-11, 6-2 MW) came out on top in a razor-thin finish in doubles. Following split results on courts two (Arianna Van Houweling/Shivaani Selvan def. Dylan Voeks/Annika Planinsek, 6-2) and one (Sorcha Caves/Luana Avelar def. Abby Cotuna/Sofia Mavor, 6-3) in order, the final decision fell to court two. Sophomore Maya Michalski and freshman Jariahlyn Rhoades, down 5-3 in their set against CSU's Stella Morgan/Logan Voeks, powered through three-straight games to lead 6-5, before Morgan/Voeks forced a tiebreaker. Trailing 5-4 in the tiebreak, Michalski/Rhoades took the final three points to clinch the doubles point. The duo currently sits at 9-1, extending their active win streak to five.
After recognizing the Falcons' two soon-to-be second lieutenants, senior Van Houweling was the first to claim victory, scoring a 6-4, 6-2 win over CSU's Caves. The senior now sits at 9-3 with wins in four of her last five completed matches.
On court four, Sofia Mavor was next to claim victory, defeating Ram Leyla Tozin, 6-3, 6-2. Mavor built leads of 4-1 and 5-0 in both sets over Tozin to cap a 2-0 singles weekend for the sophomore.
On line six, Rhoades clinched the match and Air Force's first shutout of the conference stretch with a 6-4, 6-2 win against CSU junior Logan Voeks. The freshman completed a 3-0 weekend earning a fourth singles victory in her last five finished matches while improving to 9-3 in dual singles.
