
Women’s Tennis Falls to Ranked Boise State in Narrow 4-3 Decision

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Air Force Women's Tennis carried a narrow lead for the majority of its match against No. 52 Boise State but saw its advantage dwindle and disappear late, ending in a 4-3 loss for the Falcons on Friday afternoon.
The Falcons claimed a tight doubles point to gain a 1-0 advantage on the day. After a line three Air Force loss (Carla Grignac /Lorelyz Marruffo def. Maya Michalski/Jariahlyn Rhoades, 6-3), senior Arianna Van Houweling and sophomore Shivaani Selvan evened the score, earning a 6-4 win over 8-2 Paula Schaefer/Stella Beliman. Senior Abby Cotuna and sophomore Sofia Mavor tipped the scales in the Falcons' favor, taking down Tereza Polakova/Zdena Safarova, 6-4, to clinch Air Force's eleventh doubles point in its last 12 matches.
In singles, Nadia Kojonroj clinched her sixth-straight singles victory on the heels of a late second-set comeback against Schaefer. After splitting sets on line two with Polakova, Van Houweling raced to a 6-0 shutout third set, improving to 10-3 in dual singles while securing her third-straight win.
The Broncos scored wins on courts six (Carla Grignac def. Rhoades, 6-1, 6-1), four (Allison Isaacs def. Mavor, 6-3, 6-2) and three (Masa Viriant def. Yule Kang, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1), leaving the team score at 3-3 with Cotuna's match to go on court one against Safarova. Trailing 5-3 in the first set, Cotuna battled her way to four-straight game wins to take a 7-5 win but fell 6-1 and 6-2 in the final two sets, ceding the 4-3 decision to Boise State.
