WHY USAFA?: 'Most of it was gymnastics and the cost, but I also thought job opportunities would be unparalleled and I thought it would be interesting to be a pilot. There are a lot of opportunities, with and without the team, to travel worldwide and the education, the teacher to student ratio, and the degree were all important. '
JUNIOR (2010): Did not see competitive action. SOPHOMORE (2009): Saw action in one meet...competed on the vault at the season-opening Rocky Mountain Open, scoring a 13.250...was hampered by injuries throughout the season...shared the team[apos]s Hardest Worker Award. FRESHMAN (2008): Did not see competitive action. HIGH SCHOOL/CLUB: Attended Lynnfield High School...competed at the club level for the Yellow Jackets Gymnastics Club...coached by Dewayne Davenport. PERSONAL: Full name is Derek Crews Kvedar...son of Joseph and Vicki Kvedar...has two younger sisters, Julie and Megan...majoring in computer science...future plans include becoming a UAV pilot...has served as Element Leader and Safety Officer...hobbies include skiing, camping, hiking and rock climbing...favorite event is the high bar...spent the summer in France, as a part of the Cadet Summer Language Immersion Program...member of Cadet Squadron 26.
