Wen Zhang punctuated his outstanding Air Force career with a 15th place finish in the 200 Freestyle at the 2023 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on March 24. Zhang secured qualification for a second swim as the result of a preliminary time of 1:32.61, touching out at 16th-overall in the morning race. The Falcon narrowly edged out NC State's Luke Miller for the lone remaining consolation position by .07 seconds. In his final race of the day, Zhang swam to a time of 1:32.87 to secure honorable mention All-American status. Zhang secured two team points for Air Force, becoming the first Falcon to do so since Michael Barnosky, who finished third in the 100 Breaststroke in 2016. The reigning two-time Western Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Year departs the Academy as a two-time All-American owning six program records. An Olympic Trials Wave 1 finalist in 2021, Zhang still has the capacity to compete, as he has the 2024 Olympic Trials still looming a year from now at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
