Falcons Drop Dual-Meet to Denver

DENVER, Colo. - For the third time this season, the Air Force women's gymnastics team took a loss at the hands of their neighbor from the north. Denver defeated Air Force 196.300-192.450 at the Hamilton Gymnasium on Saturday, March 6. It wraps up a season-series that saw the Falcons travel twice to Denver, while the Pioneers competed here once.
Denver once again dominated the competition, claiming at least a share of the top three spots in every event and taking a 1-2-3 run in the all-around.
Junior Jessa Liegl (Lincoln, Neb.) continued to lead the Falcons, posting the highest score of the team on three individual events and the all-around. Her highest finish of the night came on the balance beam, where she tied for third with a 9.850. She also tied for fourth on the floor with a 9.825 and finished fifth on the uneven bars with a 9.725. Liegl collected a combined score of 38.725 to finish fourth in the all-around.
Senior Erin Maguire (Pocatello, Idaho) had the team's only other top-five finish. She tied for fifth on the beam with a 9.825, while leading the Falcons on the vault with a sixth-place score of 9.800.
Including ties, senior Rebecca Lewis (Plano, Texas) posted the fourth-highest score on the floor exercise, finishing with a 9.725 and a seventh-place ranking.
The Falcons have a quick turnaround, competing in their final home meet of the season on Tuesday, March 9. Air Force will host Rhode Island at 6 p.m., in the cadet West Gymnasium. It will be the second time this season that the two squads have faced one another, as Air Force traveled to Rhode Island several weeks ago. It will also be the final home-meet for the four Falcon seniors - Laura Frank, Rebecca Lewis, Erin Maguire and Tammy Ritchey.
