Brian Boardman Takes Ninth on the Floor

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. -- As the lone competitor from the Air Force men's gymnastics team, sophomore Brian Boardman collected a 7.700 on the floor exercise to finish ninth in the event finals of the Rocky Mountain Open on Saturday, Jan. 14. Boardman collected scores of 7.700, 7.800, 7.300 and 7.700 from the event's four judges, with the highest and lowest scores dropped.
Jonathan Horton, of the 2006 Rocky Mountain Open collegiate team champion Oklahoma, won the event with a 9.400 -- one of only three floor exercise competitors to clear an 8.500. Yewki Tomita, of the U.S. Olympic Training Center, claimed the top spots on the pommel horse (9.150) and the high bar (9.450). Oklahoma's Jamie Henderson won the still rings with a 9.000, while Washington's Jeff Crockett took the top spot on the floor with a mark of 9.300. Nebraska's Derric Wood and Oklahoma's Joe Weaver tied for the event lead on the parallel bars with a score 8.350.
The Falcons and the Sooners meet up next weekend in Norman, Okla., for the first dual meet of the season for both teams. Action is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
