Bemidji State comes back for 5-2 win

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Bemidji State scored two second-period goals and rolled to a 5-2 win over Air Force in a College Hockey America game Friday, Jan. 20, at the John Glas Fieldhouse in Bemidji, Minn.
With the win, Bemidji State improved to 12-8-3 overall and 7-3-1 in the CHA. Air Force fell to 5-13-1 overall and 3-6 in the CHA. The Beavers remained in first place in the CHA while Air Force remained in fourth place.
After Bemidji State opened the scoring just 68 seconds into the game, Air Force answered to take a 2-1 lead. Beaver winger Shane Holman led a 2-on-1 rush up the ice and scored his second of the season. Jean-Guy Gervais and Riley Weselowski also assisted on the play. The Falcons rebounded from the early deficit to tie the game at the 8:26 mark. On a 5-on-3 power play, Brian Gineo scored his fifth of the season from Brooks Turnquist. The two defensemen passed the puck back and forth before Gineo took the shot from the point.
The Falcons took a 2-1 lead when Andrew Ramsey scored at the 14:51 mark from Billy Devoney. Air Force created a flurry in front of BSU goalie Matt Climie, and Ramsey netted his fifth of the season. However, just two minutes later, the Beavers tied the game at 2-2. Matt Pope took a shot from the boards that hit off of goalie Peter Foster's stick and went in the net. AFA out-shot BSU, 16-9, in the period.
In the second period, BSU scored two goals in a span of 13 seconds to take a 4-2 lead. Blaine Jarvis's goal at the 8:21 mark broke a 2-2 tie and gave the Beavers a 3-2 advantage. His shot from the high slot hit off of Foster's stick and into the net. The goal chased Foster from the game as Ian Harper came on in relief. Harper was quickly welcomed to the game as Andrew Martens scored at 8:34 from Ryan Miller for a 4-2 lead.
With the Falcons trailing by two goals late in the third period, BSU defenseman Cody Bostock was called for interference. The Falcons then pulled Harper from the net for a two-man advantage on the power play. After a flurry in front of the Beaver net, BSU put the game away with a short-handed empty-net goal with 2:21 remaining as Jarvis scored his second of the game from the red line.
Air Force out-shot Bemidji State, 34-26, in the game. Air Force's shot advantage was its in five years in Bemidji. It is also just the seventh time under Tom Serratore that the Beavers have been out-shot at home.
The Falcons were 1-for-8 on the power play while BSU was 1-for-5. Foster started for the Falcons and was tagged with the loss. He played the first 28 minutes and allowed three goals on 13 shots. Harper played 32 minutes and gave up one goal while making 11 saves. Junior Ben Worker made his second appearance of the season and played the final 10 seconds. Climie earned the win for BSU, making 32 saves.
Air Force and Bemidji State conclude the two-game CHA series Saturday, Jan. 21, at 7:05 p.m. CST.
