Greg Stine Leads Air Force to Season-Best Score

CHICAGO, Ill. - Highlighted by a pair of first-place finishes from junior Greg Stine (Houston, Texas), the No. 16 Air Force men's gymnastics team improved its season-best score for the second straight meet. The Falcons tallied a combined score of 196.500 to finish second to No. 14 Illinois-Chicago on Sunday, March 11, in Chicago.

Improving or matching its season high team totals on five of the six events, Air Force improved its overall total score by nearly two points. After two years without clearing the 190-point plateau, the Falcons have surpassed that mark three times over the last two weeks.

Stine continued to lead the Falcons, posting the squad's top mark on every event. Posting a team-best 9.400 on the floor exercise, Stine won that event, while also combining for a score of 51.850 to win the all-around. He also tied for second on the still rings with a score of 9.200, while finishing third on the pommel horse (8.100) and vault (8.300). In addition, Stine finished within the top half of the field on the parallel bars (8.400-fourth) and high bar (8.450-sixth).

Sophomore Jacob Schonig (Los Gatos, Calif.) tied with Stine for second on the still rings, with a career-best score of 9.200.

Freshman Brennan Wolford (Thornville, Ohio) placed fifth on the floor with a score of 8.500,, while sophomore Chris Deans (Sugar Land, Texas) picked up the same placement on the pommel horse behind a personal-best finish of 7.900.

The Falcons' co-captains, senior Kurt Antonio (Rio Rancho, N.M.) and junior Brian Boardman (Naperville, Ill.), also finished within the top half of the field. Antonio notched a season-best 8.100 on the vault to take sixth, while Boardman earned the same finish on the vault with a score of 8.050.

Air Force closes out the regular season next Saturday (March 17) when it travels to Lincoln, Neb., for a dual-meet with Mountain Pacific Sports Federation foe Nebraska, which is currently ranked 10th in this week's GymInfo Poll. Action begins at 7 p.m., in the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
