Schonig and Stine Earn Top-10 Finishes at National Qualifier

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Backed by three top-10 finishes, the Air Force men's gymnastics team had a successful day of competition at the NCAA National Qualifier (second session) on Thursday, April 12, in State College, Pa. Sophomore Jacob Schonig (Los Gatos, Calif.) and junior Greg Stine (Houston, Texas) led the Falcons' contingent with sixth- and eighth-place finishes, respectively.
Schonig, who is in just his second year of competitive gymnastics, garnered a career-best score 9.550 to tie for sixth on the still rings. That total is a personal improvement by .200.
Stine, who last competed at the national qualifier in 2004, finished eighth in the all-around with a combined score of 50.750. Contributing to that score was an eighth-place (tied) finish on the still rings, behind a 9.500. In addition, he tied for 11th on the floor exercise with a score of 9.250. He also accounted for scores of 8.100 (pommel horse), 8.300 (vault), 7.350 (parallel bars) and 8.250 (high bar).
Stine's placement in the all-around is the best by an Air Force gymnast in at least 27 years.
