Air Force Concludes Competition at NCAA Regional Meet

DES MOINES, Iowa - One day after setting an Academy record, Kevin Hawkins is up for at-large consideration to the national meet after finishing seventh in the finals of the 800-meter run at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships on Saturday, May 26 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Clocking a time of 1:49.76 to take seventh, Hawkins could earn a spot at the national championships. The top five finishers from each regional event automatically advance to the NCAA Championships, while the sixth, seventh and eighth-place finishers have a chance for an at-large bid based on the national descending order lists once the regional meets are finished.
In other action from the regional meet, senior Olivia Korte finished 13th in the discus throw with a distance of 154'5", while freshman Sara Neubauer placed 17th with a throw of 149'6". Freshman Melissa Beerse also competed in the pole vault, but no-heighted her opening attempt.
Hawkins, senior Brian Walsh (decathlon), freshman Dan Paladino (hammer throw) and freshman Nick Frawley (pole vault) will find out their standing for the NCAA Championships with the selection announcement on Tuesday, May 29 at 1 p.m. The national meet is slated to run June 6-9 in Sacramento, Calif.
