Lamoureux and Volkening earn AHA honors

Two Air Force players earned Atlantic Hockey Association honors after the sweep of Bemidji State, Oct. 17-18 at the Cadet Ice Arena. Sophomore center Jacques Lamoureux was named the AHA Player of the Week while junior goaltender Andrew Volkening was named the AHA Goaltender of the Week.
Lamoureux scored six points in the two-game series vs. the Beavers. The Grand Forks, N.D., native had three goals and three assists and scored the game-winner in both games. In the first game, Lamoureux had a career-best two goals in the 6-2 Falcon win. On Saturday, he tied his career high with two assists. Lamoureux leads the nation in scoring with 10 points (5-5-10) and is tied for the national lead with five goals in four games.
Volkening earned both victories in the sweep of Bemidji State. He allowed just two goals in the series, both in the first game, stopping 16 of the 18 shots in the 6-2 win on Friday. On Saturday, he earned his sixth career shutout by stopping all 15 shots in the 6-0 victory. On the season, the Genoa, Ill., native has a 1.49 goals-against average and a .933 saves percentage.
Air Force (4-0 overall and 2-0 in the AHA) travels to Springfield, Mass., for a two-game AHA series with American International College (AIC), Friday-Saturday, Oct. 24-25. The Falcons are receiving votes in both national polls. Based on the number of votes, Air Force is No. 18 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll and No. 22 in the USCHO/CBS College Sports poll.
