The Air Force women's gymnastics team heads back out on the road this weekend, traveling to Denton, Texas, for a triangular meet against Northern Illinois and Texas Woman's University on Sunday, Feb. 7. The 2 p.m. (CST) meet will give the Falcons their first look at Kitty Magee Arena, the site of the 2010 USAG Collegiate National Championships.
LET'S MEET THE OPPONENTS
Texas Woman's University is coming off of a third-place finish at the Metroplex Challenge on Jan. 30. However, the Pioneers will travel to second-ranked Oklahoma on Friday, Feb. 5, for a tri-meet with the Sooners and No. 10 Nebraska prior to hosting Sunday's meet. Northern Illinois, which is 3-1 on the year, is coming off of a 192.125-191.500 victory over Ball State on Sunday, Jan. 31.
DUDLEY EARNS GYMNAST OF THE WEEK AWARD
Following a pair of outstanding all-around performances, Jenna Dudley claimed her first career MPSF Gymnast of the Week award on Feb. 2. During the Falcons' back-to-back meets against Alaska-Anchorage and UC Davis, Dudley accounted for top-five finishes on nearly every event, including a pair of titles on the floor exercise. She posted a season-best score of 9.725 on the floor Wednesday to secure the Falcons' victory, before upping that mark to a career-best-matching score of 9.775.
MAGIC NUMBER: TWO
Two gymnasts accounted for two event titles during each of the Falcons' two home meets. Brittany Dutton claimed back-to-back titles on the vault against Alaska-Anchorage and UC Davis, while Jenna Dudley was the top-scoring gymnast on the floor exercise both nights.
MAKING IMPROVEMENTS
While Jenna Dudley matched her career-best mark on the floor exercise (9.775) against UC Davis on Jan. 30, two more Falcons improved their marks at that meet. Tara Harris bettered her scores on the floor exercise (9.275) and all-around (36.375), while Holland Davis upped her balance beam score to 9.200.
FALCONS WIN HOME OPENER
Backed by strong performances on the final rotation, Air Force earned a come-from-behind victory over Alaska-Anchorage on Jan. 27. Sweeping the top four spots on the floor exercise, the Falcons scored a narrow 185.350-184.800 victory over the visiting Seawolves. Performances by Michelle Denise (9.300, third tied), Lisa Wong (9.300, third tied) and Brittany Dutton (9.650, second) paved the way for Air Force to clinch the victory with Jenna Dudley's winning score of 9.725.
WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE FALCONS
Following Sunday's competition in Texas, the Falcons are off until Saturday, Feb. 20, when they host a triangular meet with Southeast Missouri State and Seattle Pacific at the Academy's Cadet West Gym. Air Force will honor its senior class - Aftan Boudreaux, Michelle Denise and Stephanie Frick - at the conclusion of the meet.
