Falcons Place Fifth at MPSF Championships

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The No. 12 Air Force men's gymnastics team placed fifth at the annual Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships on Saturday, April 3, in Norman, Okla. The Falcons accounted for a team score of 329.500 to place fifth in a meet that featured five of the top 12 teams in the nation.
Junior Nash Mills paced the Falcons on the floor exercise with a score of 14.150 - a mark just .050 off of his personal-best. Mills also posted the squad's top finish on the still rings (14.300), parallel bars (13.800) and high bar (13.400). He combined for an all-around total of 81.950.
Freshman James Okamoto was the top Falcon scorer on the pommel horse, tallying a score of 13.750. Sophomore Joel Uptmor scored a 15.650 - a tally just .100 shy of his career high - was the top scorer on the vault
Host Oklahoma won its 10th conference title in the last 12 years, using a strong final rotation to edge out California by a narrow 354.550-354.450 margin. Top-ranked Stanford finished third with a score of 347.150, while Nebraska (341.650) and Air Force (329.500) rounded out the field.
The Falcons will learn their NCAA fate next week, when the selection committee announces the field of competitors for the national meet. The 2010 NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships will take place on April 15-17 in West Point, N.Y.
