Devin Menefee Wins Still Rings in Minnesota Dual

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Junior Devin Menefee won the still rings with a season-high score of 14.500, as the 11th-ranked Air Force men's gymnastics team wrapped up competition against ninth-ranked Minnesota on Friday, Feb. 18, in Minneapolis. The Falcons scored their second-highest total of the season, but fell to the Gophers by a 345.600-331.300 margin.
Menefee was one of two Falcons to finish within the top three on that event, as senior Nash Mills placed third with a season-high 14.300. Mills, the night's lone all-around (81.700), posted his best finish of the night on the high bar, as he collected a score of 13.800 to tie for second.
Like Mills, Colton Wulf picked up a pair finishes among the top half of the field. In addition to tying for fourth on the high bar (career-best 13.600), the freshman was the Falcons' top finisher on the floor exercise with a sixth-place score of 14.400.
Air Force collected a pair of top-six finishes on both the vault and pommel horse from members of the freshman and sophomore classes. Sophomore Tory Brown tied for third on the vault with a mark of 15.600, while freshman Ben Zaiser placed sixth with a 15.300. On the pommel horse, sophomore James Okamoto earned a score of 13.500 to place fourth, while freshman Patrick Duffy tied for fifth.
Senior Matt Thorne rounded out the Falcons' top-scoring finishers, as he placed sixth on the parallel bars with a mark of 13.500.
As a team, the Falcons set season-high totals on the floor exercise (56.400) and still rings (56.000).
Air Force has a short turnaround before its next meet, as it travels to Aliso Viejo, Calif., on Sunday (Feb. 20) for the annual All-Academy Championships. Air Force will face its service academy counterparts, No. 13 Army and No. 14 Navy, at 1:30 p.m. (PST) at the Soka University Gym.
