USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Five members of the 2011 Air Force men's gymnastics team were named All-America Scholar-Athletes by the College Gymnastics Association, including three first-team selections, the league announced on August 2.
In addition, the program was ranked among the CGA's top-15 academic teams in terms of overall GPA.
Juniors Travis Myers and Jacob Houder, as well as freshman Patrick Duffy, were three of the 69 first-team All-America Scholar-Athlete selections, representing gymnasts with a GPA of 3.50 or higher. Seniors Aaron Zaiser and Derek Kvedar were two of the 63 gymnasts to earn second-team status with grade-point-averages between 3.20-3.49.
Houder and Zaiser each earned their second appearance on the national list, while Myers, Duffy and Kvedar all made their first.
As a team, the men were ranked 12th in the CGA national academic team standings. It is the first time in recent history that the program has been recognized on the CGA top-15 list.
