
Air Force Tops San Jose State, 66-52

Freshman Matt Mooney scored a career-high 20 points and sophomore Hayden Graham added 16 to lead Air Force past San Jose State, 66-52, Wednesday night in a Mountain West game in San Jose, Calif.
Mooney hit a three-pointer with 7:46 remaining in the first half to give Air Force its first lead of the game, 17-16. The three-pointer was part of a 9-0 run and the Falcons never trailed in the game after that. Air Force went on to take a 29-23 advantage at halftime and led by as many as 11 points, 46-35, midway through the second half. San Jose State cut the lead to four points, 48-44, with 7:52 left, but the Falcons steadily pushed the lead back to 10 with 4:25 left. The Falcons kept the Spartans at a distance thanks to hitting 18 of 20 free throws in the second half. Air Force hit 21 of 25 for the game and out-rebounded San Jose State, 33-25. The Falcons also had just 10 turnovers and six steals while holding the Spartans to just 38.6 percent shooting. San Jose State opened the game hitting six of its first nine field goals, but finished the half hitting just three of its next 16. The Spartans shot 42.1 percent in the second half, but committed 14 turnovers including seven in the second half.
The win snaps a five-game losing streak for Air Force overall and a six-game Mountain West road losing streak. The Falcons won for the first time on the road this season and second straight time in San Jose. The Falcons also improved to 9-2 this season when leading at the half.
Senior Trevor Lyons added 11 points and four rebounds while Graham led the Falcons in rebounding with six and assists with three. The Falcons improve to 9-11 overall and 2-7 in conference games.
San Jose State falls to 2-18 overall and 0-8 in conference play.
