SEATTLE, Wash. - The Air Force women's gymnastics team used its highest team total of the season (193.125) to edge Mountain Pacific Sports Federation-opponent Seattle Pacific (193.050) this evening in Seattle. The Falcons claimed a share of three event titles, as they avenged an earlier loss to SPU.
Air Force bettered Seattle Pacific by 0.075 points to mark the second time in as many meets that less than 0.400 points separated the two Falcon squads.
Senior Jessica Wallander shared the event titles on the vault (9.800) and uneven bars (9.750), while classmate Alexandra Stych and sophomore Kara Witgen were part of a three-way tie for first on the floor exercise (9.775).
Sophomore Annie Graft posted Air Force's best score on the balance beam, as she tied for second with a career-best 9.800. Freshman Jamie Lewis used matching scores of 9.750 to finish fourth on the vault and beam, adding over one point to her career total in the all-around (38.700) to tie for first with senior Kim McRobbie, who added top-five finishes on the uneven bars (fourth tie, 9.700) and vault (fifth, 9.625). Freshman Casey Bell tied for fifth on the floor with a career-best 9.725, while Witgen added a sixth-place tie on the vault (9.600) to round out the Falcons' list of top-six finishers.
Air Force returns to action next Saturday (March 7), when it travels to Denver for a triangular meet with the 18th-ranked Pioneers and Ohio State. The meet starts a busy week that includes a home meet against Denver and Alaska-Anchorage on Monday, March 9, and a road meet at Arizona State on Friday, March 13.
