Falcons Wrap up First Day of Jackrabbit Invitational

PRIMM, Nev. - Behind strong, opening-round performances from sophomore Brenden Bone and freshman J.D. Kiesewetter, the Air Force golf team wrapped up the first day of competition at the Jackrabbit Invitational in Primm, Nev., on Monday, March 16. The Falcons are currently tied for eighth, with a seven-over score of 583, after the initial 36 holes.
Backed by a personal-best round of 69 (three under par) from Bone, the Falcons combined for a one-under par total of 287 to stand in sixth after the first 18 holes. Kiesewetter also recorded an under-par score in the opening round, tallying a career-best, two-under score 70. Junior Michael Fan opened the tournament with a one-over par 73, while freshman Dane Hankamer and senior Blake Edwards recorded scores of 75 (three-over par) and 79 (seven-over par), respectively, rounded out the Falcons' scoring during the first 18 holes.
Kiesewetter paced the Falcons during the second round, carding a one-under par score of 71, while Bone, Fan and Hankamer recording matching three-over scores of 75. Edwards rounded out Air Force's lineup on the second 18 with a seven-over score of 79.
Tied for 14th with a three-under par score of 141, Kiesewetter leads the Falcons after the first two rounds of play at the Jackrabbit Invitational. Bone is tied for 23rd with an even-par score of 144, while Fan is tied for 47th at 148 (four-over). Hankamer is just two shots back (150, six-over) to tie for 60th, while Edwards is tied for 85th with a 14-over score of 158.
After two rounds, the Falcons are tied for eighth with a seven-over par with a score of 583. The squad fired a one-under par score of 287 on the opening 18, before closing out the day with a 296 (eight-over). Air Force's opening round score was the third-lowest round of the season
Tennessee and nationally-ranked UNLV are tied for the team lead, holding 37-under par marks of 539 to separate themselves from the rest of the 15-team field by 35 strokes. The Rebels' Kurt Kitayama is the tournament's individual leader with a two-day score of 131 (-13).
The Falcons return to the Primm Valley Golf Club tomorrow (March 17) morning for the final 18 holes of the Jackrabbit Invitational. The shotgun start is scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
