Falcons Finish First at Cornell Quadrangular

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Air Force women's gymnastics team capped off its weekend trip to New York with a first-place finish Cornell's Big Red Goes Pink Invitational in Ithaca on Sunday, Feb. 14. The Falcons registered a team score of 191.525 to edge host Cornell (191.225) and defeat Division III opponents from Brockport State (187.625) and Ithaca College (185.900).
Junior Kara Witgen was the Falcons' top finisher on two events, as she tied for second on the uneven bars (9.675) and placed fourth on the vault (9.550). Witgen, who scored a season-high 38.650 in the all-around, added fifth-place finishes on the balance beam (9.700) and floor exercise (9.725).
Sophomores Casey Bell and Jamie Lewis were the Falcons' top finishers on the floor, as the duo scored matching marks of 9.775 (career-best for Lewis) to finish as a part of a three-way tie for second. Senior Shannen Kelly rounded out the list of top Air Force finishers, as she tied for third on the balance beam with a season-best tally of 9.750.
Three other Falcons recorded top-five marks in their respective events. Sophomore Julia Sebben scored a personal-best 9.575 to finish fourth on the uneven bars, while classmate Chelsea Grimison and freshman Mariana Murphy tied for fifth on the vault with matching marks of 9.525.
The Falcons travel to Ames, Iowa, next Friday (Feb. 19), for a triangular meet with Iowa State and 18th-ranked Minnesota at Hilton Coliseum.
