Air Force Drops Weekend Opener to Alaska-Anchorage

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Senior Sarah Neumann claimed first-place honors on the balance beam, but the Air Force women's gymnastics team dropped a 192.925-190.675 decision to Alaska this evening (March 11) at Alaska Airlines Arena in Anchorage.
Neumann scored a career-high 9.850 to win the beam and pace the Falcons to three of the top-six finishes. Junior Kara Witgen scored a season-high 9.800 to finish second, while sophomore Jamie Lewis placed sixth with a 9.550.
Lewis and Witgen, who finished second (38.625) and fourth (38.125), respectively, in the all-around, tied for second on the floor with matching scores of 9.750. The pair also paced the Falcons on the vault, as Lewis matched her season-high of 9.725 to finish second, while Witgen finished fourth with a 9.675.
Freshman Mariana Murphy equaled her career-high of 9.725 to lead the Falcons and tie for second on the uneven bars, while sophomore Casey Bell earned a placement within the top half of the 12-gymnast field by finishing fourth on the floor with a score of 9.675.
The Falcons are Seawolves return to action on Sunday (March 13), when they close out the regular season during a 2:00 p.m. (AKST) dual meet -- the 50th such meeting in the series.
