Falcons Register Season-High 193.825 in Home Finale

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – The Air Force women's gymnastics team collected a season-high 193.825 during its final home meet of the 2016 season on Sunday, March 6, at the Academy's Cadet West Gym. Improving their season-best score by more than one point, the Falcons finished third to 19th-ranked Minnesota (197.225) and 13th-ranked Denver (197.050).
The Falcons' score of 193.825 equals the seventh-highest total of head coach Doug Day 's 10-year tenure and is the program's best team score since 2014.
Senior Shannen Kelly and freshman Mariana Murphy posted the Falcons' top finishes of the day, as the duo used matching scores of 9.800 to tie for ninth on the balance beam. That score, a season high for Kelly, was a personal improvement of 0.300 points for Murphy.
Junior Kara Witgen was the Falcons' top finisher on the uneven bars and floor exercise, en route to a career-best all-around total of 39.050. Witgen registered a season-high 9.825 on the floor and a 9.800 on the uneven bars, as she tied for 10th on both events. The junior added a 9.725 on the beam (13th, tie) and a 9.700 on the vault (14th) to finish fifth in the all-around with her first 39-point outing.
Sophomore Jamie Lewis rounded out the Falcons' list of event leaders, as she scored a season-best matching score of 9.725 to tie for 12th on the vault. Lewis also accounted for a season-high 9.700 on the beam and a career-best 9.775 on the floor, as she posted a season-high all-around of 38.675 (sixth).
Air Force closes out the regular season next week, when it travels to Anchorage for dual meets with Mountain Pacific Sports Federation foes Alaska on Friday, March 11, and Sunday, March 13.
