USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - A pair of second-half goals lifted Air Force women's soccer to a 2-0 win over UMass Lowell (2-4-2) Sunday afternoon at Cadet Soccer Stadium. Kaitlyn Cook and Taylor Cobb notched goals for the Falcons.
For the second straight game, Air Force turned it on in the second half after playing to a scoreless first half. Air Force played Northern Arizona to a scoreless tie on Friday, before winning 3-1.
Cook scored her goal in the 51st minute to put the Falcons ahead. From the right end line, sophomore Hailey Laub sent a cross into the box, finding Cook, who one-timed it to the left post for her first-career goal.
Cobb gave Air Force (4-2-1) an insurance goal in the 83rd minute. Junior Brook Rittmann sent in a pass from the right side to Cobb, who side-stepped UMass Lowell goalkeeper Julia Schneider and tapped in to the open net from 10 yards out.
Air Force held a 21-11 advantage in shots. Cook, Bree Bezdek and Laub had three shots each. Junior Alex Kahalley notched her second shutout of the season in goal, collecting nine saves.
"It was a tough game today," head coach Larry Friend said. "It was our fourth game in eight days so our legs were starting to get heavy. I was very happy we could find a way to win. Credit to UMass Lowell for being such a worthy opponent."
The Falcons conclude non-conference play on a roll, having won four of its last five.
Air Force returns to action Friday, Sept. 25, at San Diego State. Kickoff is 7 pm PT.
