CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Senior Kara Witgen earned an event title the balance beam, but the Air Force women's gymnastics team suffered a narrow 193.800-193.775 non-conference loss to Southeast Missouri this afternoon (March 5) in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
Witgen scored a 9.850 to win the beam, while pacing the Falcons to four of the top-six scores on that event. Sophomore Riley Hill registered a mark of 9.775 to take third, while classmates Brittney Reed and Mariana Murphy finished fifth (9.700) and sixth (9.650), respectively.
Backed by a third-place mark of 9.700 from junior Jamie Lewis, the Falcons also accounted for four of the top-six marks on the vault. Hill registered a tally of 9.675 to finish fourth, while Witgen placed fifth with a 9.650 and freshman Anna Salamone finished sixth with a score of 9.600.
Junior Casey Bell (fourth, 9.800) and Witgen (fifth, 9.775) placed within the top-half of the 12-gymnast field on the floor exercise, while Reed (fifth, 9.725), Salamone (sixth tie, 9.700) and senior Darby Germain (sixth tie, career-best 9.700) earned top-six marks on the uneven bars.
The Falcons close out the regular season next Friday (March 10), when they travel to Davis, Calif., for a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation dual meet against UC Davis.
