COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Trey Bradley and Alex Berardinelli each scored two goals in a 6-1 win over Air Force in a non-conference college hockey game Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Broadmoor World Arena.
The Tigers (3-1-0) drew first blood late in the first period on the power play. Nick Halloran's shot was saved, but Trey Bradley collected the puck below the goal line, and tucked it inside the post with 19 seconds left in the first.
Air Force (0-2-0) tied the game in the second on the power play. Matt Koch gave the puck to Evan Feno on the half wall. Feno's shot from the left circle was saved, but Matt Serratore cleaned up the rebound on the weak side at 5:50 for his first of the season. The Tigers regained the lead when Bradley had a breakaway down the right wing. After a quick forehand/backhand move, he released the puck and then crashed into Falcon goalie Billy Christopoulos. After a video review, the officials determined the puck went in before contact and the Tigers had a 2-1 lead. Bradley was called for a penalty on the play. While Air Force was unable to convert on its power play, the Tigers did convert later in the period. On the power play, Westin Michaud put back a rebound of Halloran's shots with 3:14 remaining.
Leading 3-1 early in the third period, the Tigers scored quickly as Ben Copeland scored from Christiano Versich just 2:06 into the third period. After Kyle Haak drew a penalty, the Falcons had a power play midway through the third period. However, Tiger winger Alex Berardinelli scored two short-handed goals in a span of 57 seconds for a 6-1 advantage.
Colorado College outshot Air Force, 29-18, in the game. The Tigers were 2-for-6 on the power play while Air Force was 1-for-6.
"We let that game get away from us," head coach Frank Serratore said. "Their special teams were a lot better than ours. I didn't like our fight tonight. I like our team and I like our skill set, but I didn't like our testosterone level. We were still in it at the start of the third, but CC did what good teams do at home, they won the third period. Give CC all the credit, they earned this win and they earned the trophy. No question about it, they were the best team."
Air Force hits the road for a pair of conference games at Canisius, Oct. 19-20, in Buffalo, N.Y.
