Air Force Falls To UMBC In Double-Overtime At Bimini Jam, 77-72

BIMINI, BAHAMAS - Air Force men's basketball (1-2) lost to UMBC (3-1), 77-72 in double-overtime in its first game at the 2018 Bimini Jam Friday night at Gateway Christian Academy.

In a game that featured 15 lead-changes, it was the Retrievers that were able to take control late. After Air Force took a 69-68 lead on a three-point basket by Sid Tomes 2:17 remaining in the second overtime, UMBC out-scored the Falcons 9-3 the rest of the way out.

Trailing 75-72, with 21 seconds left, Air Force had a chance to tie the game, but Ryan Swan's three attempt fell short and UMBC went the other was and capped the game with a dunk.

Tomes led Air Force with a career-high 20 points. The junior connected on three three-point shots and was 7 of 8 from the free throw line. Swan added a season-high 17 points to go with a team-high eight rebounds.

Sophomore Keaton Van Soelen scored nine points and grabbed seven rebounds. Freshman AJ Walker gave the Falcons 28 solid minutes off the bench, reaching career-high's with six points, four assists and two steals.

Joe Sherbune led five Retreivers in double figures scoring with 24 points. Max Curran and Arkel Lamar posted double-doubles for UMBC.

Air Force led 33-29 at the half, utilitizing a 10-0 run to take control of the game. UMBC overtook Air Force midway through the second half and led by as many as four. But the Falcons managed to rally back from a three-point deficit with two minutes left to play and tie the game up.

The Falcons and Retrievers remained tied after the first overtime. UMBC took the lead for good on a three by Brandon Horvath with 55 seconds left in the second overtime.

Air Force returns to action Sunday, Nov. 18 against South Dakota. Tip time is 3:30 pm ET and the game will be broadcast locally on KVOR 740 AM. Video stream will be available on FloHoops.
