
Track and Field to Open Home Season with AF Holiday Open

The season-opening meet will start at 3:00 p.m. (MT) on Friday, Dec. 7, at the Cadet Field House.
Less than one week after a record-breaking start to the season in Boston, the Air Force track and field team officially opens the home portion of its 2018-19 competition calendar this weekend, when it hosts the eighth-annual Air Force Holiday Open on Friday, Dec. 7. The non-scoring meet, which will be held at the Cadet Field House, is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m. (MT) with the women's weight throw and men's pole vault.
ADMISSION FOR FRIDAY'S MEET**
Due to several ticketed events taking place at the Cadet Field House on Friday evening, the following admission policy for the Air Force Holiday Open has been put in place by the Air Force Ticket Office.
Fans arriving before 3:30 ... FREE
Fans arriving between 3:30-6:30 ... $8 adults, $5 children
Fans arriving after 6:30: ... $10 everyone
MEET INFORMATION
The Air Force Holiday Open, the first of five home meets for the Falcons this season, is slated to begin on the field at 3:00 p.m., (a complete schedule of events is listed below). Live results will be available via GoAirForceFalcons.com (a direct link will be posted to the team's schedule page at the start of competition), while in-meet updates and Air Force highlights will be posted to the team's official Twitter page (@af_trackfield).
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
3:00 p.m.: Women's Weight Throw, followed by Men's Weight Throw, Women's Shot Put, Men's Shot Put; 3:00 p.m.: Men's Pole Vault, Women's Pole Vault; 4:00 p.m.: Women's Long Jump, Women's Triple Jump; 4:00 p.m.: Men's Long Jump, Men's Triple Jump; 4:00 p.m.: Women's High Jump, Men's High Jump; 5:00 p.m.: Mile Run, 60-Meter Hurdles, 500-Meter Dash, 60-Meter Dash, 1000-Meter Run, 300-Meter Dash, Mile Relay (women will compete first in all running events).
ONE RACE, ONE RECORD
Backed by a career-best time of 15:28.07, Jaci Smith crushed the Academy's 5000-meter record at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Dec. 1. The senior, who finished eighth in a stacked field of competition, took nearly 26 seconds off of the program's two-year-old record and accounted for the fifth-fastest time in conference history.
WE'LL BE SEEING YOU
The Air Force Holiday Open is the first of five collegiate home meets for the Falcons during the indoor season. In addition to the December meet, the team will host the Air Force Team Challenge (Jan. 18), the Air Force Combined Events Meet (Jan. 24-25), the Air Force Invitational (Jan. 25-26) and the Air Force Collegiate Open (Feb. 15) at the Cadet Field House.
ON THE SIDELINES
Ralph Lindeman, a 17-time conference coach of the year and six-time regional coach of the year, returns for his 30th season as the head coach of the Air Force track and field program. Lindeman, who oversees the Falcons' multi-event athletes, is joined on the sidelines by associate head coach Scott Steffan (vertical jumps) and assistant coaches Ryan Cole (middle distance/distance), Dana Lyon (javelin), Keith Vance (throws) and Justin Wickard (sprints/hurdles). The Falcons' staff also includes volunteer coaches Bob Graf (horizontal jumps) and Mark Stanforth (middle distance/distance), as well as director of operations Matt Layten.
HOME SWEET HOME
A total of 12 Falcons hail from the state of Colorado, including four from Colorado Springs – Terrell Bradford (Palmer), Maria Mettler (Air Academy), Miguel Molas (James Irwin Charter), Erika Willis (The Classical Academy) – and one from Monument – Drew Lester (Palmer Ridge). The squad's Centennial State roster also includes individuals from Eaton (Garrett Coalson), Fort Collins (Preston Roche), Highlands Ranch (Parker Garrison), Littleton (Noah Riley), Loveland (Megan Irvine), Parker (Scott Johnson) and Superior (Heidi Liles).

The Falcons return to action on Jan. 11-12, when they travel to Boulder, Colo., for the Potts Indoor Invitational.
