AUSTIN, Texas -- The second-fastest 4x400-meter relay in Academy history and the top collegiate finish in the "A" high jump highlighted the final day in Texas for the Air Force track and field team. The Falcons accounted for five top-five finishes -- and 10 top-10 placements -- on Saturday, March 31, as they wrapped up competition at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays and Bobcat Invitational.
One day after posting the third-fastest time in program history, the 4x400-meter relay of junior Sedacy Walden, freshman Zachary Dicken, senior Chip White and classmate Tyler Koss clocked a time of 3:07.33 to move into second on the Academy's all-time standings. The quartet, who finished second in the finals of their section, deleted more than two seconds off of their time from yesterday's preliminary heat.
In her first outdoor meet of the year, senior Shelley Spires recorded a clearance of 6'0" to finish as the top collegiate (third overall) in the 11-jumper "A" section of the high jump, while classmate Jamiel Trimble -- in his first 200-meter dash of the outdoor campaign -- clocked a time of 20.73 to finish third out of eight collegiate in the Invitational section of the event (sixth out of 12, overall).
A runner-up finish in the pole vault from junior Kathryn Tomczak paced the contingent of Falcons at the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos this afternoon. Tomczak surpassed the 13-foot mark for the second straight day, as she cleared 13'1½" to finish second in the 23-jumper event.
The women collected a pair of top-10 finishes in the javelin, as sophomore Sierra Rodriguez and junior Liz Jarvis finished fourth (134'9") and seventh (122'4"), respectively, in the 28-thrower event. Freshman Devyn Jones, classmate Aubrey Ridgeway, junior Aryn Maxwell and sophomore Kelsey Owens finished seventh in the 4x100-meter relay (49.02), while sophomore Ashleigh Lehotsky posted a career-best distance of 41'3" to round out the women's list of top-10 finishers (10th).
In the only men's event today in San Marcos, freshman Parker Spearman recorded distance of 208'7" to finish fourth in the javelin throw. Senior Luke Piper also picked up a top-10 finish in the 25-thrower event, as he posted a distance of 192'2" to finish 10th.
Air Force returns to action next weekend (April 6-7), when they split for competitions at the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ariz., and the Colorado Invitational in Boulder.
