Haley Jones led the Air Force women’s basketball team with 13 points and a career-high seven steals
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Air Force women's basketball team was tripped up in Las Vegas, falling to the Lady Rebels, 66-56, Wednesday afternoon, in the Thomas and Mack Center. The Falcons drop to 5-11 overall with a 1-4 mark in MWC action while UNLV improves to 4-11 with a 2-2 mark in league play.
Freshman guard Haley Jones had a strong performance, scoring a team-high 13 points to tie her personal-best mark for the third time. Jones also snagged a career-best seven steals while shooting 5-11 from the field for the best shooting-percentage on the team. Sophomore co-captain Kaelin Immel had 12 points and led the team with five rebounds and three assists while sophomore teammate Emily Conroe dropped 11 points while shooting a perfect 5-5 from the free-throw line. The Falcons' bench combined for 24 points led by Noelle Tomes with five points.
Air Force's defense caused the Rebels to turn the ball over 27 times while the Falcons gave up the ball 17 times. UNLV crashed the boards, collecting 41 rebounds to Air Force's 25. The Rebels shot 47.7 percent from the field while the Falcons shot 30.2 percent.
The Rebels were led by Katie Powell who scored 19 points and collected a game-high 11 rebounds. Two Rebels had double-figure scoring performances.
Air Force returns to the Academy to host Nevada in MWC action, Saturday, Jan. 19. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. in Clune Arena. The Falcons will be partnering with Special Olympics Colorado to host and honor Special Olympics athletes at the game.
Friends and family of Special Olympics members can get a $4 ticket to the game if they mention Special Olympics at the box office upon entering Clune Arena. Special Olympics athletes from Special Olympics Colorado are slated to compete in a scrimmage during halftime

First Quarter: UNLV 16, AF 14
Air Force Starters: Haley Jones, Riley Snyder, Alexis Springfield, Kaelin Immel, Kassady Huffman
-UNLV's Jordyn Bell was the first to score with a jumper from 10 feet out
-The teams spent two minutes on a scoring drought, Snyder attempted two three-balls just off the mark
-Katie Powell of UNLV killed the Rebels' scoring drought with a layup
-Air Force shot 0-7, 3:20 into the game
-Snyder drew a hard foul and took two shots at the free-throw line where she hit 1-2, Autrey followed up with a shooting foul and knocked down both shots
-Conroe hit the Falcons' first field goal with a three-ball from the wing at the 4:13 mark, Air Force was 1-9 from the field at the time of the shot
-AF clawed back into the game at the free-throw line, hitting 7-10 (70.0 percent) on the quarter; Autrey and Tomes were perfect from the line
-Immel hit a buzzer-beater jumper to close the quarter, 16-14, in favor of UNLV
-AF shot only 20.0 percent from the field while UNLV shot 58.3 percent
Second Quarter: UNLV 31, AF 29
-Immel connected on a three-ball to give the Falcons a 17-16 lead early in the second quarter
-UNLV regained a one-point lead via two made free throws
-After back-and-forth scoring, Jones regained the AF lead, 23-22, via a clean inbound feed from Immel
-Tomes followed up with a three-ball to give AF a 26-22 lead to force a UNLV timeout
-AF forced four-straight turnovers to put UNLV on a two-minute scoring drought
-UNLV ended the scoring drought at the free throw line
-Jones went hard to the rack and drew an and-one foul in the paint, she connected on the free throw to lift AF to a 29-24 lead with 3:31 remaining in the half

-AF started to hack away at the UNLV lead as Conroe hit a three-pointer off a clean feed from Immel, bringing the Falcons within nine points
-AF closed the quarter 1-7 in its last seven from the field while UNLV closed 1-6 in its last six from the field

Fourth Quarter: UNLV 66, AF 56

-Paris Strawther of UNLV was called for her second unsportsmanlike conduct foul and was ejected from the game, Conroe made both of the free throws to bring AF within seven, 50-43
-AF went on a 6-0 scoring run leading into the media timeout

-Despite poor shooting on both sides of the ball, the teams scored back-and-forth up to the three-minute mark with Air Force coming as close as seven points to the UNLV lead
