Air Force Overcome By #10 Nevada, 67-52

RENO, NEVADA — Air Force men's basketball (7-11, 2-4) hung tough against #10 Nevada (18-1, 5-1), but ultimately came up short in a 67-52 setback Saturday night in front of a sellout crowd of 11,222 at Lawlor Events Center in Mountain West action. Junior Lavelle Scottie reached double figures in scoring for the 12th straight game, leading the Falcons with 15 points and seven rebounds.
Air Force led for much of the game and held Nevada to its lowest point total of the season. The Falcons held a lead as late as 11:51 into the second half. Nevada then took control of the game with a 13-0 run to jump ahead by double digits. The Falcons were unable to keep pace with the Wolf Pack the rest of the way out.
The Falcons led 24-20 at halftime, holding the Wolf Pack to its lowest halftime point total this season. Nevada shot 1 of 13 from three point range (7.7 percent) in the opening half. The Falcons were up by as many as six points in the second half, before the Pack began its comeback.
Jordan Caroline led three Nevada players in double-figures with 19 points and eight rebounds. Trey Porter scored 11 and Caleb Martin added 10 points.
The Falcons had solid bench play after several starters ran into foul trouble in the first half. Chris Joyce scored nine points and led the Falcons with a pair of threes and two steals. Ameka Akaya gave the Falcons seven points and four rebounds in 20 minutes. Akaya also drew several charging calls, putting some Wolf Pack players in foul trouble.
Ryan Swan scored seven points and had four rebounds in a foul-plagued game. Pervis Louder added five points off the bench.
Air Force shot 37 percent from the field and 88.9 percent from the free throw line. The Falcons made six three's, connecting on 27 percent of their attempts.
Air Force returns to action Tuesday, Jan. 22, hosting Boise State. Tip time at Clune Arena is 7:05 pm MT and will be broadcast by AT&T SportsNet.
