Women's Gymnastics Opens MPSF Action in San Jose

Air Force women's gymnastics will compete against Alaska and Seattle Pacific at San Jose State, Friday evening
THIS WEEKEND
Air Force travels to San Jose State to compete in an MPSF quad-meet with the Spartans, Alaska and Seattle Pacific, 7 p.m. PT, Friday, Jan. 25, in The Event Center, San Jose, Calif. The meet marks Air Force's second run-in with San Jose State this season.
NATIONALLY RANKED
Air Force was ranked No. 16 nationally on the balance beam for its second week straight, according to RoadToNationals.com.
LAST TIME OUT
Tyler Davis led the Falcons with a first-place finish in the all-around event, scoring 38.875, to set a career personal-best mark. Air Force finished second in the team results (193.675), while West Virginia won the high score on the meet (194.750). SUNY Cortland State, who is helmed by Air Force head coach Doug Day's daughter, Sierra Day, finished third (180.475), Saturday afternoon (Jan. 19), at the Air Force Academy.
On the vault, Heidi Sand led the Falcons with a 9.825 to finish second in the event and set a new personal-best in the event. Anna Salamone, who holds the Academy record on the uneven bars, scored a 9.775 to finish second in the event.
Air Force, who is ranked No. 16 in the nation on the balance beam for week two, finished with a team score of 48.650 for their highest event score of the meet. Cam Barber, who is tied for the highest beam score of the season, continued to perform strongly in the event, posting a 9.800 to lead the Falcons with a second-place finish. Davis and Emily Luers finished tied for fourth (9.725), while Daija Stevenson and Mariana Murphy tied for sixth (9.700).
UP NEXT
The Falcons travel to La Crosse, Wisconsin, to compete in a triangular with UW-La Crosse and UW-Whitewater, Fri., Feb. 1. The meet is slated for a 6:30 p.m. CT/5:30 p.m. MT start.
